Coffs Harbour Veterinary Hospital Summer 2025 Newsletter

This summer at CHVH- Honing our skills with our new surgical laser, being mentally healthy at work, caring for our native wildlife and a vet on maternity leave.

Introducing Our New Surgical Laser

This year, we have invested in cutting-edge surgical technology with a new surgical laser!

Benefits of the VetScalpel Laser for the patient

Benefits include: minimised bleeding, less pain, reduced risk of infection and faster recovery time.

“The VetScalpel veterinary lasers can perform a wide variety of surgical procedures. Laser ablation is so precise that it can selectively remove only a few tissue cells at a time if needed. At the same time, it is powerful enough to de-bulk entire tumors. It can be used to make unique bloodless laser incisions, as well as “erase” unhealthy tissue (e.g. tumors, fibromas, moles, etc.) without excessive loss of blood unavoidable in conventional scalpel surgery”.

We’re excited to offer this state-of-the-art technology to improve outcomes and comfort for our patients.

Looking After Our Mental Health At Work

At CHVH, we love looking after your pets, but veterinary medicine can be a tough and emotional job and we’d like to acknowledge that staying healthy at work, both physically and mentally, can take a bit of dedicated time and effort. Recently, we had a yummy, healthy lunch of salad rolls followed by a Mental Health at Work meeting facilitated by the NSW Government to give our staff a chance to talk through some of the challenges they face and ensure they have the tools and support they need to thrive. A happy, healthy team means the best care for your furry friends and creates a pretty awesome place to work too!

Wildlife Care Training

Dr. Sarah recently completed the “Taronga Veterinary Professional Training Course in Wildlife Treatment and Care”. She has also since shared her training with the rest of our team. This learning supports our ongoing efforts to care for injured or rescued local wildlife, which we’re happy to offer to the community at no cost. Keeping our skills and knowledge up to date helps to keep our staff safe throughout these interactions (they are wild animals after all!) and also to provide thoughtful, informed treatment and give these animals a better chance at recovery. We’re grateful to contribute to the wellbeing of Australia’s native species.

A Special Congratulations to Dr Sarah!

We’re excited to share that Dr Sarah will soon be heading off on maternity leave to welcome a new addition to her family! Please join us in wishing her all the best for this wonderful journey. She will certainly be missed, but we will look forward to celebrating with her when she returns.

While Dr. Sarah is away, Dr. Vicky will be stepping up to keep things running on her own—often working long hours to make sure our patients are cared for. Until we’re able to welcome a new vet to the team, things might move a little slower than usual. We truly appreciate your patience, understanding, and support during this time. It means a lot to all of us, and especially to Dr. Vicky.

As always, thank you for trusting us with your pets. We’re always here to provide the best care possible!
