Chronic Disease and ongoing medication

If your pet has been diagnosed with a disease or condition requiring ongoing medications, there’s a few things you’ll need to know.

Your pet will require regular health checks with your vet.

In order to continue prescribing and supplying medications, your vet must have examined your pet within the last 6 months. Some conditions may also require more frequent check ups and/or blood tests to ensure optimal management of your pet’s condition and the effectiveness of the medication and dose.

Prescriptions and fees.

Sometimes you may need to buy your pet’s medication from a pharmacy rather than directly from us. In these cases, the vet will complete a prescription for that medication.

**Please note a prescription fee will need to be paid at the time of requesting your prescription. This covers the costs involved in providing this service.

The first dispensing of the prescription needs to be filled within 30 days. Otherwise, the prescription will expire. You then have 12 months to fill any remaining repeats.

BOVA compounding chemist

At CHVH, we use BOVA compounding chemist for any medications that must be made to order.

We have chosen BOVA because it has accreditation and high standards upkept by a Quality Assurance Programme. Due to the variable nature of compounded medications, we do not supply prescriptions to other compounding chemists. After we have generated the prescription, BOVA will contact you for payment.

Please call us on 6652 1577 or visit the Pet Portal to order more medications well in advance of needing them as it may be several days before we are able to obtain your order.
